How it works

Three steps from phone to finished plan

No CAD skills, no measuring tape, no special hardware — just the phone in your pocket.

1

Scan your space

Walk around your garden or terrace with a free scanning app and capture a 3D model of the exact spot — slopes, walls and all.

2

Upload the .glb

Export the scan as a .glb file and drop it into the designer. It loads straight in your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server.

3

Design & budget

Draw the deck to real dimensions, choose materials and structure, walk through it, and export a costed materials list.

How to get a 3D scan with Scaniverse

Scaniverse is a free 3D scanning app for iPhone and Android. It turns a walk-around video into an accurate, textured 3D model you can export. Here's the whole flow.

  1. Install Scaniverse

Get it free from the App Store or Google Play. Any recent phone works — no LiDAR required (though it helps).

  2. Start a new scan

Tap New Scan and choose Mesh mode (best for exporting). Pick a higher detail/range setting for a whole garden.

  3. Walk the area slowly

Move steadily around the space, keeping the surface you care about in view. Overlap your passes and capture the ground where the deck will go. Good, even daylight gives the cleanest result.

  4. Process the scan

Tap Done and let it process. Review the model and re-scan any thin or missing spots if needed.

  5. Export as GLB

Open the scan → Share / Export → choose the GLB format (glTF binary). Save it to Files or email it to yourself.

  6. Open it in the designer

Come back here, open the designer, and drop the .glb in. Open the designer →

Everything you need to plan a real build

Draw to scale

Trace the footprint on your scan with angle-snapping. Every measurement is in real metres.

Real decking

Plank width, gap, length, thickness and joint patterns — butt, staggered or picture-frame with breaker boards.

Full structure

Joists, beams, and foundations (plinths, ground screws or posts) sized to the actual terrain under your deck.

Fences & stairs

Add railings and stairs per edge — stairs cascade to the ground and join around corners.

Walk it

Drop into a first-person walkthrough at eye height and experience the deck before you build it.

Materials budget

A live bill of materials with your prices and waste %, exportable to Excel (.xlsx).

Your scan stays on your device

decking.studio runs entirely in your browser. Your 3D scan and designs are never uploaded to a server — they load locally and your work is saved in your own browser storage.
